I've been painting in gouache for a few years now. I started with a set of pan gouache from Caran d'Ache (thank you, Doug) that has served me well. But recently, I began to try tubed gouache and some other tools. I want to share with you my latest experience.
This time, I decided to re-incorporate the pan set into my plein air kit, mostly because it contains neutral grey and burnt sienna, two colors that I deem essential but don't appear in the "starter set" of Winsor & Newton tubed gouache. (Yes, it would be wise to purchase these, should I continue with tubes.) I also prefer the large pans to the wee ones in the Portable Painter Palette; it's much easier to wet the gouache.
