New Program: Paint with a Guide!
Let me take you to the best painting spots in Downeast Maine and the Canadian Maritimes
Are you ready to explore my favorite painting spots in Downeast Maine and the Canadian Maritimes? For over 20 years, I’ve painted these stunning coastal landscapes and led plein air workshops and retreats, and I’m eager to share what I consider the best of the Bold Coast—crashing surf and tall cliffs, quiet coves and mossy bogs, fog-shrouded spruce forests and historic waterfronts.
I’d love to guide you through this unforgettable terrain. My summer studio on Campobello Island, Canada—just across the bridge from Lubec, Maine—is just minutes from dozens of breathtaking locations. Whether you come solo or with a friend, I’ll help you find subjects that spark your creativity. I’m happy to demo and share techniques anytime—always in a relaxed, supportive atmosphere.
Paint with a Guide runs from one to three days, with two two-hour sessions each day—one in the morning and another in the afternoon or evening. The cost is $100 per day, per person. I welcome individuals as well as small groups. Full payment is due upon booking, and refunds are available up to one month before your scheduled date (minus any processing fees). I prefer payment by check or Zelle.
You’ll need to bring your own painting supplies and equipment. If you’re flying in, you may be able to ship materials ahead to your lodging. Just so you know, the nearest art supply stores are in Bangor, Maine, and Fredericton, New Brunswick, so plan accordingly. Also, because of insurance requirements, you’ll also need your own vehicle.
Lodging is up to you, but there are plenty of great options nearby, including Airbnbs, VRBOs, and a few motels. For ideas, check out VisitLubecMaine.com and VisitCampobello.com. And don’t forget your passport—although my studio is in Canada, we’ll be crossing the U.S.–Canada border to paint in Maine. Processing times for a new one or renewal can be long.
This experience is designed for oil, pastel, or gouache painters who already have some plein air experience. Sketchers are welcome too! If you’re comfortable painting outdoors and eager to explore new terrain, this is for you.
I’m available July and August, and spots are limited. If this sounds like your kind of adventure, reach out soon to reserve your dates.
