Looking for a painting getaway in a beautiful part of the world? I’ve led plein air workshops and painting retreats in Sedona, Arizona, for nearly 20 years now. If you’re an experienced outdoor painter, I’d love to share my knowledge of the area with you!
Sedona is a small city in “Red Rock Country.” It’s surrounded by sheer cliffs, sandstone spires and flat mesas—all with a creek running through it. It’s a painter’s paradise. Personally, I can’t get enough of painting there.
This retreat will be limited to just two other parties. I am renting a three-bedroom house in "Uptown” near some of the best views. I held a retreat there earlier this year, and both location and house were absolutely perfect for our small group.
Since this is a retreat, there is no “formal” instruction, but I am offering my services as a location scout and in-house expert. In addition to daily critiques, I’ll be giving at least one painting demonstration—and you are welcome to watch me paint at any time as a demonstration, and I will gladly narrate.
Our schedule for the day will be an early rising followed by an expedition to one of my favorite spots where we will paint together. Critiques will happen at mid-day over lunch. Afternoons, you’ll be free to explore the area, although quite often in my retreats we all end up painting some more! Dinners can be on your own or communal.
The retreat runs from Sunday evening, November 3, 2024, with a departure of Saturday morning, November 9. (Early November is the best time to visit Sedona, since the cottonwoods should be in their full autumn color.) The cost—$1500—includes six nights’ lodging plus breakfast and lunch each day.
