Well, I’ve been on the island for a few days now, which was just enough time to unpack my bags, get the house livable, and organize the studio so it’s ready for the summer. The studio is always fun because it involves hanging all the paintings that had been turned to the wall, removing the large plastic sheets that protect the tables from dust (and squirrels, who seem to move in over the winter), and finally going through shelves and cabinets to see what supplies I have—and don’t have.
I’m pleased to see I have pretty much everything I need for a summer of painting. That’s important because, this year, I flew the 2700 miles rather than drive it. Driving has gotten to be such a hassle (ask me about my near-death experience in Dallas last year) that flying, as much as it is also a hassle, seems like a country stroll. To fly, I took only one carry on plus a “personal item,” and these two bags contained absolutely no art supplies. The only thing I seem to be lacking is a small turps can for plein air painting and a fresh Pentalic Aqua Journal. Both are now on order.
If you’re in the area or visiting—the area is Downeast Maine or coastal New Brunwick—I’d love to show you the studio, which is situated along Campobello Island’s Friar’s Bay, not far from the Roosevelt-Campobello International Park. Give me a call or send me an email to make an appointment (necessary!); contact info is on my website, here.
Okay, now it’s time to get painting.
Glad you both got to Friar’s Bay this year without incident.
You have my condolences for that Dallas trip. The freeway south of Dallas is the worst design I have ever seen. The underpasses, and there are several, are designed to function like riding up a teepee. You can not see over the top until you are over the top.
In 2024 I drove west on that freeway and it was stop and go. Apparently there was an accident ahead. When I finally was able to get around the ACCIDENT there were tow trucks removing vehicles from the down side of one of those teepees from all four lanes. Do not know what caused the accident but what a mess. Never again!
